Day 18, Monday June 10th:

Today we left early from LA for the long drive we had ahead of us to the Grand Canyon.  After a couple hours on the road we decided to stop for some food in Barstow and found ‘Barstow Station’ right on the historic Rt. 66 in California.  This place was full of souvenirs, informational pamphlets on the area, food, and a radio station headquarters.  What caught our eye from the exterior were historic train cars that had been converted to dining areas and attached to the McDonalds.  The train cars were also painted to match the iconic red and yellow of the oh-so deliciously satisfying and horribly unhealthy diabetes trap.

From there we drove another 8 hours stopping occasionally for food, gas, and pictures of the red mountain scenery.

At 7pm we had arrived at our campsite in Page, AZ and immediately set up tent so that we could make use of the remaining daylight.  We booked it to the Horseshoe Bend for sunset which was an incredible and unforgettable experience for us all.  Capturing these photos had been a desire of Keith’s for a long time.

  1. Excellent photog! The pic of Jeremy in his black stetson and shades, with the stone formation in the water to his left is fascinating... Interesting parallels between the lines and angles in the face, on the one hand, and the stone erratic, on the other. Nice artistry, Keith!
