Day 22, Friday June 14th:
Our second day in Monterey, we decided to take in the scenery
of Northern California and drove the 17 Mile Drive in Monterey and down the Pacific
Coast Highway to Big Sur. 17 Mile Drive,
which covers part of Monterey and Carmel, began by taking us along the coast of
a private community and lead to multiple golf courses. We stopped off multiple photography points to
check out the views over the ocean as well as occasionally coming across some
wildlife.
At the end of the 17 Mile Drive was the Pebble Beach golf course, where surprisingly, we were able to walk onto the course and check out the whole country club without anyone stopping us. We must have looked like we belonged due to our gym short and tee shirt attire.
Once we had gotten our fill, we left for the PCH and Big Sur which offered more amazing views down the coast. Along the road we stopped for lunch at a restaurant on the edge of a cliff with an amazing view out over the ocean.
While in Big Sur we also stopped for a small hike in the Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park to see some giant sequoias and a waterfall. After visiting Yosemite the other day, we must say, the waterfall was quite underwhelming, but the trees were HUGE. Following the hike we walked drove to a beach with a waterfall for some more photos. This area was absolutely beautiful because it is secluded from everything and people are not allowed on it anywhere.
Our last stop was to Pfeifer Beach, which is known for its purple sand. Here we watched the sunset before heading back to the city where we grabbed dinner at the Cannery Row Brewery Company.
The food and atmosphere was great and provided a nice last dinner with Evan before he flies out of San Francisco on Saturday.
