Day 9, Saturday June 1st:
We left early in the morning at 6am with a long drive ahead
of us to San Antonio. It being Max’s
last night we wanted to arrive in plenty of time to enjoy the city in daylight
and at night. Our first stop along the
way was back at Café Du Monde for some more coffee and donuts on our way out of
the city. We also decided to stop at frat
row on Tulane University in an attempt to find the ZBT house (Keith’s Dad’s old
frat house). Unfortunately we had little
luck and rumor had it that the frat had been kicked off of campus a few years
ago.
We then hit the road for an
extended amount of time before stopping in Houston, TX for lunch. Champ’s Burgers was closed on the weekend
which Jeremy had raved about from his stay in the area a couple summers
ago. We instead found another burger
shack in the “hood” part of town where they served huge burgers and “hood punch”.
We took our food to go and ate outside of
Minute Maid Park (home of the Houston Astros).
The heat became unbearable and we quickly made our way back on the road
eventually hitting San Antonio by 6pm. After
some brief relaxation we headed down to Market Square which was a short walk
from the hotel. Stopping at an indoor
market area some of us bought some small craft goods that caught our eye.
Before sunset we made our way to the
Riverwalk which was a truly beautiful area of the city. Trees and restaurants surrounded the river on
both sides with tour and dinner boats going down stream as well.
After a couple
of long walks and views of the scenery we made camp at a table on the edge of
the river at a Mexican Restaurant while being served by the greatest waitress
of all time Jessica. Here we ordered
drinks and authentic Mexican food while taking in the atmosphere.
