Day 21, Thursday June 13th:

After sleeping in (10 am) we headed out to Fishman’s Wharf in downtown Monterey.  We immediately heard the sounds of sea lions that were gathered around the docks for everyone in the area to see.

Once we had our fair share of the sea lions, we continued up and down the dock, receiving free samples of clam chowder at nearly every restaurant we passed, explaining how their chowder and lunch deals are the best in town.  After exploring the area and our options, we stopped at the place that seemed to be offering a good deal with a good view of the ocean at the table.  The view was great while the food ending up being mediocre and overpriced at best.

Following lunch, our spirits were down after a lackluster meal, but the day was saved when we ran into a nice British woman and her daughter on our way to the Monterey visitors’ center to get some ideas on what to do in the area.  The mother was watching her sons’ sailing class, located in the dock area.  While watching the class play tag in the bay on sail boats, we discussed some of the entertainment for tourists in the area.  We also got to observe her sons’ maneuver through the other students, making some ridiculous turns and pull some ninja sailing moves to prevent their boat from capsizing.  Through this entertainment we got to know the two of them a little. They gave us some great advice on what to do in the area.

After a nice discussion with the two, we decided to make our next stop was the Monterey Aquarium, which was well known in this area.

From there we then went on a walk down the coast to Lovers Point and Point Pinos for a sunset photo shoot.

Afterwards we grabbed some dinner and called it an early night in reparation for the next day going down Big Sur and the PCH.
